World Arthritis Day 2020
It’s time to remind the world that arthritis is a real disease that reduces quality of life.
Oct. 12, 2020, is World Arthritis Day. This observance calls global attention to a complex, multifaceted disease that evidence shows is a leading cause of disability worldwide, with both physical and emotional impacts. But for much of the world, it’s still an invisible disease.
This year, there’s the extra layer of COVID-19 — an unprecedented situation that has literally changed the world forever. We hope you will recognize arthritis through that extra lens and help spread the word to others in your network about how serious a disease arthritis really is, especially in how it diminishes quality of life. Many people with arthritis are more vulnerable to the pandemic because of their age or compromised immune system.
Your generous support powers the scientific breakthroughs, legislative wins and life-improvement programs the Arthritis Foundation leads, bringing us closer to a cure every day. Every donation counts as we focus on improving physical and emotional health and quality of life.
Unfortunately, like many nonprofit organizations, the Arthritis Foundation has a revenue shortfall that threatens our work to conquer arthritis. Together, we have made such monumental progress — and we must keep that momentum going.
As we work together to advance groundbreaking solutions, we’re also working side-by-side to pursue legislation to make health care more accessible and affordable — not just for arthritis, but for other chronic diseases, too.

Taking Action Against Arthritis for You
- We have invested more than $500 million in arthritis research since the Arthritis Foundation’s founding in 1948, with amazing results. And we keep pushing for more funding for the CDC’s Arthritis Program, the only federal program dedicated solely to arthritis.
- Since 2014, dedicated Arthritis Foundation Advocates and Ambassadors have helped gain over 120 legislative wins in all 50 states — improving copay assistance, easing step-therapy requirements and limiting out-of-pocket costs.
- Your voice counts. In the most ambitious survey of its kind, our ongoing INSIGHTS study has eye-opening findings. Like 43% of respondents reporting they can’t walk or have major difficulty walking. And over 90% saying limitations from arthritis affect their daily lives. We’re putting that data in front of decision-makers who need to know — and demanding they take action.
