Dosages
Injection: For adults under 100 kg (220 lbs): 45 mg initially and 4 weeks later, followed by 45 mg every 12 weeks. For adults over 100 kg: 90 mg initially and 4 weeks later, followed by 90 mg every 12 weeks.
Potential Side Effects
Back pain; diarrhea; fatigue; headache; upper respiratory infection.
Special Instructions
Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception during treatment.
Be Aware
All biologics suppress the immune system and may increase your risk of infections. Tell your doctor if you have an active infection. Do not start treatment if you have a serious or recurrent infection (such as pneumonia). You should be tested for tuberculosis before starting this medication. Do not get a live vaccine when taking biologics.
Multiple squamous cell skin cancers have been reported in patients receiving ustekinumab who had pre-existing risk factors for non-melanoma skin cancer. Your doctor should examine your skin for changes while you are taking this drug.
